No Country for Old Men-Book Vs Film.

no_country_for_old_men-poster.jpgThis is one of the best books I have ever read. It is very unpolished, raw, and sincere. I don’t really know how to describe it, but the author did such a great job,  that you actually felt the blood and dust around you when you read it.  He wrote the thoughts of the main character like a hick would talk and you almost hear the accent, slurs and chew spit when you read it.  It was amazing.  He didn’t use hardly any punctuation which really showed the education level of the characters and the abruptness of the story.  This story pulls no punches.  If you have not seen the movie please do. It is almost word for word out of the book, which I really appreciate, because the book is hard to digest and the movie is exactly the same way. I also really liked how the main assassin did not have a beginning or end, he just appears in the story and then disappears.  The Coen Bro’s did nothing to doll it up or make it more presentable, it was just raw and left you feeling like you got punched in the stomach…in a good way. Let me know what you thought.dz

cindy again–

this movie was a little brutal for me. i’m not to into visual violations/violence of movies. i never (or at least try really hard not to) watch the movie before i read the book, and thanks to ray’s b.day, i unfortunately wasn’t able to do that in this case.

i chose this book for the book club, and after seeing the movie, i kind of regret it and am contemplating changing my choice. i read mccartney’s (sp?) The Road and was really impressed with it. he has quite a unique writing style. very visually laid out. kind of irritating in the beginning of the read, but it grows on one and tends to add to his blunt characters and plot. i am all about stretching myself and reading a wide variety of genres, however this read (or rather movie) was a bit pointlessly violent for my tastes.

i wonder if i can get away w/pretending i read it…like you said they were very similar. :)

have i told you lately how cool it is that you are enjoying reading so much, and how much you do read?? nothing could be more attractive. you’re a man after my own heart…obviously. :)

ps good review by the way.

nice review daniel. if only you had a radio show.

great book, good movie. i think the movie does a good job not overplaying the action from the book. i think it does lose a little of the pondering that the sheriff does in the book. but all in all both are worth checking out.

ps if you haven’t seen the movie or read the book be prepared for a laugh fest rivaled only by saving private ryan.
